Dorctors for Choice UK mourn Diane Munday (1936-2026) - a true abortion hero.

Diane was a passionate and lifelong advocate for abortion rights and played an instrumental role in the campaign that led to the Abortion Act 1967, which created a route to safe, legal abortion and led to a profound reduction in maternal mortality. She remained a committed activist throughout her life, continuing to campaign for the decriminalisation of abortion until the very end. At Doctors for Choice UK, we pause to reflect on – and give thanks for – the immeasurable impact Diane had on the lives of countless women.

In February 2026 Drs for Choice UK carried out a survey of UK medical schools to assess the extent to which education about abortion was included within the core curriculum in 2024-25. There was a high response rate, with most respondents providing answers to all or most of the questions.

This survey was designed to generate topline information without being burdensome on medical schools.

The results provide a snapshot of the kind of education that is being delivered about abortion during one academic year. They demonstrate a wide range of approaches to teaching including what, when, how and how much a student in a given medical school can expect to learn about the topic.
