DfC Student conference
On the 28th February 2026 Doctors for Choice UK held our first ever student conference! We invited all healthcare students (from medicine, nursing, midwifery, physician associate, and pharmacy programmes), to join us for a practical, evidence-based introduction to abortion care.
We explored abortion care as an essential part of healthcare through expert talks, panel discussions, and interactive workshops.
The day was a great sucess with lots of positive feedback. Read this blog by Irish student Kiran Singh.
It was such a success that we have decided to launch a student roadshow! We are inviting our members to bring a version of the conference to their own regions and help expand access to abortion education. See here for further information on how to hold a student conference in your area.
Dorctors for Choice UK mourn Diane Munday (1936-2026) - a true abortion hero.
Diane was a passionate and lifelong advocate for abortion rights and played an instrumental role in the campaign that led to the Abortion Act 1967, which created a route to safe, legal abortion and led to a profound reduction in maternal mortality. She remained a committed activist throughout her life, continuing to campaign for the decriminalisation of abortion until the very end. At Doctors for Choice UK, we pause to reflect on – and give thanks for – the immeasurable impact Diane had on the lives of countless women.
Review of Abortion Law in Scotland: Expert Group Report
We welcome the Expert Group’s report as a significant and positive step towards a modern, humane legal framework for abortion in Scotland and support many of its core recommendations, including removal of most criminal sanctions, expansion of who can provide care, and a statutory duty to provide services.
We however express reservations about the retention of the 24-week limit for most abortions and the ongoing two-doctor requirement for later procedures, which we believe are inconsistent with a rights-based, decriminalised approach.
We call on the Scottish Government and MSPs to use this opportunity to move as close as possible to true decriminalisation, with abortion regulated as healthcare, not as a criminal offence.
